I never set New Years Resolutions because I break them within the first 24 hours! Setting impossible goals with a NY Eve hangover is probably one of the silliest things I will do all year.
However, promising myself that I will do more work on certain life issues is a positive and beneficial idea. Using the holiday time to reflect on technology that is passing me by or reading certain books and Authors is the most taxing exercise so far this year.
We (Mrs Bookmark and me) are taking 2 weeks off in January for a well earned cruise to beautiful New Zealand and the Kindle will get some action during this time. The prospect of taking 23 books that I want to read, excites me and I am stunned that I can fit them all into a side pocket of my hand luggage! There is no doubt that writing and reading technology has changed the whole dynamic of words and how we read them.
Whilst I have not embraced the Tablet, I can not envisage a 2 week spell without a Laptop or the Kindle and the pleasure they bring. Being able to read the books that have come my way in the past 12 months on a 7 inch screen and to make notes and write reviews, still astounds me.
Simple soul, that I am!
Having said all the above, self publishing does not improve the quality of the publications, though. Some books simply should not have been published without a lot of major surgery.
But, conversely there are many books that have made it to the world that would still be in the Rejection drawer of many desks. This is the power of self publishing.
I’ll be back soon after a recharge and we can get into it all over again.
Happy New Year!!
